Client Site Appliance
On each client site a low-power and small form factor monitoring and support appliance performs the active monitoring of the devices on the local network. The appliance was designed to be highly reliable, after all, what good would a monitoring device be if it couldn’t monitor? Inside the appliance an integrator will find no moving parts, thus eliminating the most common causes of failure – there are no fans or spinning hard drives. The appliance itself is based on a linux platform, again, with reliability being the primary concern. All appliance software upgrades are automatic, requiring no integrator interaction, and all configuration is performed through the ihiji portal. To configure a new appliance all an integrator must do is plug the device into the network, allow it to auto configure, and then log into the ihiji portal.
Web Based Portal
The invision appliance reports all client side information back to the ihiji hosted web portal. In this web portal an integrator has access to each of their clients’ sites including all monitoring data and management from one convenient point of access. The site was designed from the ground up to be easy to use and intuitive for the residential systems integrator – simplifying the process of monitoring and configuration. Within the portal a dashboard view provides a high level status of all client installations and from there an integrator can begin to dig down into the specifics of each site. The portal is hosted on a highly reliable and redundant cloud server system which ensures integrators will have access to their client sites when needed. Additionally, the hosted solution eliminates the need to the integrator to manually upgrade or backup data; all backups and upgrades are performed automatically by ihiji. From within the unified portal integrators can access all current data, change notification parameters, run historical reports and even perform one-click reboots of remote devices!
What can be monitored
At a basic level the invision solution can monitor any device that resides on the IP network. More advanced monitoring can be performed on IP enabled devices that are capable of reporting their general health and status, the only requirements are that they be self aware and are capable of sharing this information. ihiji has also developed a custom framework for monitoring legacy RS-232, Axlink or Crestnet devices via a control processor and can also monitor temperature or current draw with IP enabled accessories. Additionally, the control system integration allows monitoring of Zigbee nodes and Zigbee network statistics. Examples of devices that can be monitored include projectors, control processors, wifi touch panels, switches, wireless access points, routers, network capable TV and blu-ray, UPS, PDU, IP cameras, DVRs, video servers, and more.
