SXSW brings technology’s best to Ihiji backyard
March in Austin, more specifically Spring Break in Austin, brings about an extremely interesting, fun and sometimes wild event that captures the attention of the entire city. From March 11-20, music, film, and technology come together for one massive, internationally renowned event: SXSW (pronounced “South by Southwest” or “South by” for those who aren’t familiar). Celebrating 30 years, this multi-week event spans three areas of SXSW including Interactive, Music and Film. EDU, related to education tracks was added recently as well.
There are a number of big names coming to SXSW this year in music, such as CHVRCHES and MAGIC! in addition to the upwards of 2,000 other bands from around the world who will soon crash into our city. On the Film side, Austin’s beloved Duplass brothers will be making an appearance as well as film headliners like Hardcore Henry, Demolition and the latest from yet another Austin-based Hollywood heavyweight, Richard Linklater, called Everybody Wants Some. Even President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are making appearances to speak at two separate days. So much for getting to our downtown offices that week.
While we are looking forward to the music and the films (and how can you not), as a technology company in one of the country’s hottest tech hubs, we are most looking forward to the SXSW sessions known as Interactive. Every year at SXSW, there are always great new presentations and panel topics related to software, security and technology as a whole, but we are really expecting the most relevant new developments for our industry to be in the “Internet of Things” or IoT space. You will likely run into us at panels including “Getting ROI on the IoT: How to Make a Business” and “Transforming the Future: Advertising and the IoT Era.” We look forward to learning how these and other panels can help us to evolve our understanding of this fast developing IoT market. Specifically, as more Ihiji dealers get into the specification, design, installation and support of IoT devices, we want to know where the opportunities and challenges will be found.
SXSW has been a part of Austin for 30 years; it’s part of what makes the city what it is. We feel the same way about Ihiji. Austin is our home. Ihiji was born here and we take pride being part of such a great, technology-centric, rocking and slightly weird city. If you are in Austin for the festival, and trying to work as hard as you play, look us up. If you happen to be in Austin before SXSW on March 10, we will also be at the Capital Factory Startup Crawl.
